The tiki welds two ancient Hawaiian hand weapons: a dagger lined with shark teeth in his left and a shark toothed club in his right. Such weapons were often carved of Kaulia - a very hard wood so heavy it sinks in water.
The tiki wears a symbol depicting “Maui’s magic fishing hook” which the mythological character used to ‘fish’ the archipelago up out of the sea.
This tiki is roughly based upon an actual carved wooden tiki that has resided at the “Don the Beachcomber’s Mai-Tai bar", in Kailua-kona Hawaii, since the ’70’s. There, it’s said to protect the Royal Hawaiian Resort from tsunamis.
