Mister Mai Tai - Canvas Giclee
24" x 30" Canvas Giclee
I painted this for a local Mai Tai Festival in Kailua-Kona Hawaii, yet it has still not yet been used for that promotional purpose.
In 2014, the painting traveled to show at Strychnin Gallery in Berlin, Germany where it was unveiled in a mod Tiki Art Show with many other big name artist's works.
However, it didn't sell and even though the gallery requested that they hold onto it for an additional amount of time to display it, it never sold there.
When the painting arrived back in Hawaii it had been a few months since I had laid eyes on it. One look and I knew exactly what needed to be done to it. To make it really "FINISHED".
I put brush to canvas again, and I created the super high glossy chrome look to the living Mai Tai.
That chrome look was made famous in underground comics by Robert Williams, the father of "Lowbrow Art".
Sporting his new, Lowbrow comic, very shiny look, Mister Mai Tai sold instantly when he was next revealed to the public.
